BOAT BILL OF SALE TEMPLATE FAQ

What is a boat bill of sale?

A boat bill of sale is a written document that records the sale of a boat or watercraft from a seller to a buyer. It usually includes information about the vessel (HIN, registration, make, model), the sale price, the date, and the names and signatures of both parties. It serves as proof that ownership has been transferred.

Do I need a bill of sale to sell or buy a boat?

In many places, a bill of sale is recommended or required for registering or titling a boat after a private sale. Even if not strictly required, it is a useful record for both buyer and seller and can help prevent disputes about the condition, equipment included, price, and date of transfer.

What should be included in a boat bill of sale?

A solid boat bill of sale typically includes: buyer and seller information, detailed boat information (HIN, registration number, make, model, year, length), sale date and purchase price, whether a trailer and/or motor are included, any liens, and “as-is” or warranty terms, plus signatures. Some jurisdictions have additional required forms or disclosures.

Can this template cover the trailer and motor too?

Yes. This template includes optional sections for a trailer and an outboard or inboard motor, so you can document whether they are part of the sale and on what terms. If the trailer or motor has its own title or serial number, you can list those details in the appropriate section.

Is the boat sold “as is” under this template?

By default, the template is written for an “as-is” sale, meaning the seller does not promise that the boat is free from defects. There is also a space for a limited warranty if the seller chooses to offer one. Local law may still provide protections against fraud or undisclosed issues.

Can AI Lawyer help me fill out a Boat Bill of Sale?

Yes. AI Lawyer can help you complete this Boat Bill of Sale template by inserting your vessel details, equipment, price, and terms so the document is clear and ready to sign.
