BOAT LEASE AGREEMENT TEMPLATE FAQ
What is a Boat Lease Agreement?
A Boat Lease Agreement is a contract where an owner (lessor) allows another person or business (lessee) to use a boat or yacht for a set period in exchange for regular lease payments. It usually covers the lease term, payments, navigation area, permitted use, maintenance, insurance, and what happens at the end of the lease.
Who can use this Boat Lease Agreement template?
This template can be used by private boat owners, marinas, charter companies, and businesses leasing powerboats, sailboats, catamarans, or small yachts for medium- or long-term use. It is not designed for short, one-day bareboat rentals, which typically use a separate rental agreement.
What should be included in a Boat Lease Agreement?
Key terms include a detailed description of the boat (HIN, registration, equipment), the lease term and payment schedule, security deposit, navigation limits, rules on who may operate the boat, safety and maintenance responsibilities, insurance requirements, accident procedures, and return condition at the end of the lease.
Can this boat lease be used for commercial charters?
Yes, with adjustments. For commercial use (such as paid charters or instruction), the lease should clearly state that purpose, include any license and crew requirements, and comply with local maritime and commercial regulations. You may want a local professional to review the final wording.
Does signing a Boat Lease Agreement transfer ownership of the boat?
No. A lease grants use of the boat for a limited time but does not transfer ownership, unless the agreement includes and you exercise a separate purchase option. Ownership remains with the lessor unless and until a lawful sale is completed.
Can AI Lawyer help me customize this Boat Lease Agreement?
Yes. AI Lawyer can help you adapt this Boat Lease Agreement template by adjusting payment terms, navigation limits, safety rules, insurance clauses, and end-of-lease conditions while keeping the language clear and consistent. You still decide the actual terms and should obtain local legal advice if needed.
